Résumé du projet scientifique soutenu de l'Axe 2, POUVOIRS :
EpiSpat : familles de notables et développement territorial dans les cités antiques de Nîmes et de Fréjus, l'apport de l’épigraphie spatiale
Ce projet a pour objectif d’étudier le rôle des notables et de leurs dépendants dans le développement socio-économique et territorial des cités antiques de Gaule Narbonnaise. En croisant données épigraphiques et archéologiques, nous proposons d’explorer les liens pouvant exister entre l’ancrage spatial des familles aristocratiques, qui disposent du pouvoir politique et de la puissance économique, et d’une part les processus de construction territoriale des cités, d’autre part leur développement différencié (mise en valeur, intensité et dynamique du peuplement). Intrinsèquement interdisciplinaire (épigraphie, archéologie, histoire et histoire de l’art), le projet mobilisera les riches corpus épigraphiques et archéologiques des cités de Nîmes et Fréjus et s’appuiera sur des outils innovants de gestion de bases de données, d’analyse et de modélisation de réseaux sociaux et spatiaux.
This project is designed to study the role played by the members of the gallo-roman aristocracy in the socio-economic and territorial development of the ancient cities of Gallia Narbonensis. Combining epigraphic and archaeological data, we want to explore the links that may exist between the spatial anchoring of aristocratic families, who have both political and economic power, and 1) the processes of territorial construction of the cities, 2) their differentiated development (in terms of land management and settlement dynamics). Strongly interdisciplinary (epigraphy, archaeology, history and art history), the project will mobilize the rich epigraphic and archaeological databases of the cities of Nîmes and Fréjus, and use innovative tools for databases management, analysis and modelling of spatial and social networks.
